Our Roots
Pages With Purpose was founded in 2021 by 16-year-old Sabrina O'Connor. While Sabrina loved donating her time to various service-themed outreach programs, she noticed a prevailing mindset in her peer group that completing required school service hours was a chore. Born out of her love for reading and her desire to help students see the fun in outreach, Sabrina found a way to combine gift-giving with the joy of reading a new book.
The first event hosted by Pages With Purpose took place during the holiday season of 2021. With approximately 60 volunteers, and donations from countless individuals and local small businesses, the team was able to donate over 500 books to local Title 1 schools, and approximately 200 books to local children's' charities.
As delighted responses to the outreach rolled in, a dream was born to turn Pages With Purpose into a global movement. In order to give the outreach every chance of success, and ensure it was accessible to all income levels, the Pages With Purpose team worked to establish the "Plant a Seed" Kit. This plug-and-play kit allows schools, religious organizations, and businesses to quickly and easily implement the program in their communities.
Why Title 1 Schools?
Title 1 schools have a higher population of students who are lower-income. These schools are designated to receive government funding to ensure the students receive everything they need to have a good learning environment. We felt that those schools deserved the books the most and were most accessible for us to get to at a high school level. That was our best way of designating who was deserving of the books, and who would be excited to take them in.
